As for the three things the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said about him, I will never insult him, for if even one of them were said about me, it would be more beloved to me than red camels.I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say to Ali, when he had left him behind during one of his expeditions, and Ali said to him, "Messenger of Allah, are you leaving me behind with the women and children?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Are you not pleased to be to me in the position that Harun was to Musa, except that there is no prophethood after me?"And I heard him say on the day of Khaybar, "I will surely give the banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and whom Allah and His Messenger love."He said, we all stretched our necks hoping for it, but he said, "Call Ali for me." Ali came to him suffering from an eye ailment, so he spat into his eye and handed him the banner, and Allah granted victory through him.And when this verse was revealed, "Let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women" [Al Imran 3:61], the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn, and said, "O Allah, these are my family."
Muslim also reported it in Fadail al-Sahabah, chapter on the virtues of Ali bin Abu Talib , hadith no. 2404, from Qutayba with the same wording, and it was mentioned earlier in abridged form, hadith no. 2999.
