When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for the pledge of Ridwan, Uthman bin Affan was serving as his envoy to the people of Mecca. The people gave their pledge, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Uthman is occupied with the business of Allah and the business of His Messenger." Then he struck one of his hands upon the other, so the hand of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on behalf of Uthman was better for him than their own hands were for themselves. He said, this is a hasan sahih gharib hadith.
[Its isnad is daif. Hakam bin Abdul-Malik is daif, and the hadith of Abu Dawud (2726, hasan) suffices in its place. Also Hakim, 3/98, and others. See hadith 3706.
