I and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were born in the Year of the Elephant.Uthman bin Affan asked Qubath bin Ashyam, of the clan of Banu Yamur bin Layth, "Are you older, or is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"He replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is greater than me, but I came into the world before him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was born in the Year of the Elephant, and my mother lifted me up to look at the site where the elephant fell, and I saw the droppings of the birds, green and turned to dust."
حدثنا محمد بن بشار العبدي حدثنا وهب بن جرير حدثنا أبي قال سمعت محمد بن إسحق يحدث
ولدت أنا ورسول الله ﷺ عام الفيل وسأل عثمان بن عفان قباث بن أشيم أخا بني يعمر بن ليث أأنت أكبر أم رسول الله ﷺ فقال رسول الله ﷺ أكبر مني وأنا أقدم منه في الميلاد ولد رسول الله ﷺ عام الفيل ورفعت بي أمي على الموضع قال ورأيت خذق الطير أخضر محيلا
[Sahih] Ahmad narrated it: 4/215, from the hadith of Ibn Ishaq with the same wording, and he clarified that he had heard it directly. Hakim graded it sahih according to the standard of Muslim: 2/603, and Dhahabi agreed with him. It was graded hasan in Sirah Nabawiyyah, p. 23. It has corroborating narrations in Ibn Saad: 1/101, and in Hakim and others.
