The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came as a guest to my father's house, and we brought him food, which he ate. Then dates were brought to him, and he ate them, dropping the pits between two of his fingers, joining the index and middle fingers together.Shuba said, "This is my best recollection, if Allah wills, that he dropped the pits between two fingers."Then a drink was brought, which he drank, and he passed it to the one on his right.Ubayy then took hold of the reins of his mount and said, "Pray for us."He said, "O Allah, bless them in what You have provided for them, forgive them, and have mercy on them."
حدثنا أبو موسى محمد بن المثنى حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة عن يزيد بن خمير الشامي
نزل رسول الله ﷺ على أبي فقربنا إليه طعاما فأكل منه ثم أتي بتمر فكان يأكل ويلقي النوى بإصبعيه جمع السبابة والوسطى قال شعبة وهو ظني فيه إن شاء الله وألقى النوى بين أصبعين ثم أتي بشراب فشربه ثم ناوله الذي عن يمينه قال فقال أبي وأخذ بلجام دابته ادع لنا فقال اللهم بارك لهم فيما رزقتهم واغفر لهم وارحمهم
Muslim also narrated it in the Book of Drinks, Chapter on the recommendation of placing date pits outside the dates and the recommendation of the guest supplicating for the family who provided the food... etc., hadith no. 2042, from Muhammad bin Muthanna, with the same chain.
