Abbas came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ having apparently heard something that troubled him. So the Prophet ﷺ stood upon the pulpit and asked, "Who am I?"They replied, "You are the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon you."He said, "I am Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abdul-Muttalib. Allah created the creation and placed me among the best group of them. Then He divided them into two groups and placed me in the better of the two. Then He made them into tribes and placed me in the best of their tribes. Then He made them into households and placed me in the best of their households and the noblest of them in lineage."
حدثنا محمود بن غيلان حدثنا أبو أحمد حدثنا سفيان عن يزيد بن أبي زياد عن عبد الله بن الحارث
جاء العباس إلى رسول الله ﷺ فكأنه سمع شيئا فقام النبي ﷺ على المنبر فقال من أنا فقالوا أنت رسول الله عليك السلام قال أنا محمد بن عبد الله بن عبد المطلب إن الله خلق الخلق فجعلني في خيرهم فرقة ثم جعلهم فرقتين فجعلني في خيرهم فرقة ثم جعلهم قبائل فجعلني في خيرهم قبيلة ثم جعلهم بيوتا فجعلني في خيرهم بيتا وخيرهم نسبا
[Its chain of transmission is daif] Takhrij: Ahmad (1/210) also narrated it from Sufyan Thawri through the same route. Yazid bin Ziyad is daif, a mudallis, and had confused narration. Part of the hadith has a corroborating witness that will come at 3605.
