A man came up to Hasan bin Ali after he had pledged allegiance to Muawiya and said, "You have blackened the faces of the believers," or, "You who have blackened the faces of the believers."Hasan replied, "Do not rebuke me, may Allah have mercy on you. The Prophet ﷺ was shown the Banu Umaya upon his pulpit, and this distressed him. Then was revealed, "Indeed, We have granted you al-Kawthar" [Kawthar 108:1], meaning, Muhammad, a river in Paradise. And this verse was revealed, "Indeed, We sent it down during the Night of Decree. And what will make you know what the Night of Decree is? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months" [Qadr 97:1–3], meaning that the Banu Umaya will rule it after you, Muhammad."Qasim said, "We counted them, and they came to exactly a thousand months, not a day more nor a day less."

[Daif] Tabarani narrated it in Kabir, 9/3, hadith 2754, from the hadith of Tayalisi through the same route. Hakim graded it sahih, 3/170, 171, but Dhahabi did not agree with him. Mizzi, Ibn Kathir, and others graded it daif. There is doubt about whether Yusuf bin Saad actually heard from Hasan bin Ali.
