The Prophet ﷺ was praying when Abu Jahl came and said, "Did I not forbid you from this? Did I not forbid you from this? Did I not forbid you from this?"The Prophet ﷺ turned and rebuked him sharply.Abu Jahl said, "You know well that no one in this valley has a larger council of supporters than I do."So Allah revealed, "Then let him call his council. We will call the angels of Hell" [Alaq 96:17–18].Ibn Abbas said, "By Allah, had he called his council, the angels of Allah would have seized him."He said, this is a hasan gharib sahih hadith, and there is a narration on this topic from Abu Hurairah .
[Sahih] Nasai also narrated it in Sunan al-Kubra (Hadith: 11684) from Abu Saeed Ashaj with this wording. Wahib also narrated it (Ahmad: 1/329, in an abridged form), as did Ali bin Mushir (Tafsir Tabari: 30/164).There is also a version from Abu Hurairah [Muslim, Hadith: 2297].
