We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when Surah al-Jumuah was revealed, and he recited it. When he reached the verse "And others among them who have not yet joined them" [Jumuah 62:3], a man asked him, "Messenger of Allah, who are these people who have not yet joined us?"He did not answer him. Salman Farsi was among us. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ placed his hand on Salman and said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, if faith were at the Pleiades, some men from these people would reach it."Thawr bin Zayd is from Madinah, and Thawr bin Yazid is from Sham. Abu al-Ghayth's name is Salim, the freedman of Abdullah bin Muti, from Madinah, and he is trustworthy.
حدثنا علي بن حجر أخبرنا عبد الله بن جعفر حدثني ثور بن زيد الديلي عن أبي الغيث
كنا عند رسول الله ﷺ حين أنزلت سورة الجمعة فتلاها فلما بلغ {وآخرين منهم لما يلحقوا بهم} قال له رجل يا رسول الله من هؤلاء الذين لم يلحقوا بنا فلم يكلمه قال وسلمان الفارسي فينا قال فوضع رسول الله ﷺ على سلمان يده فقال والذي نفسي بيده لو كان الإيمان بالثريا لتناوله رجال من هؤلاء ثور بن زيد مدني وثور بن يزيد شامي وأبو الغيث اسمه سالم مولى عبد الله بن مطيع مدني ثقة
Agreed upon [by Bukhari and Muslim]. Bukhari recorded it in the Tafsir, chapter of Allah's saying, "and among others of them who have not yet joined them" [Jumuah 62:3], no. 4897, and Muslim, no. 2546, from the hadith of Thawr bin Zayd, through this same chain.
