A man reported,

I came to Madinah and entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The envoy of Aad was mentioned in his presence, so I said, "I seek refuge in Allah from being like the envoy of Aad."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "And who was the envoy of Aad?"I replied, "You have come to the right person who knows. When Aad were struck by drought, they sent Qayl as their envoy. He stayed with Bakr bin Muawiya, who served him wine and had two singing girls called the Jaradatan entertain him. Then he set out toward the mountains of Mahrah and said, 'O Allah, I have not come to You for a sick person to be cured, nor for a captive to be ransomed. Give Your servant the rain You would give him, and give Bakr bin Muawiya rain along with him,' as a token of gratitude for the wine he had served him.Then clouds were raised up before him and he was told, 'Choose one of them.' He chose the black one among them. He was told, 'Take it as fine ashes that will not leave a single one of Aad alive.'"He mentioned that no more wind was sent against them than the measure of this ring, meaning the ring of a signet.Then he recited, "When We sent against them the barren wind. It left nothing it came upon but reduced it to ruins" [Dhariyat 51:41–42].

حدثنا ابن أبي عمر حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة عن سلام عن عاصم بن أبي النجود عن أبي وائل

عن رجل من ربيعة قال

قدمت المدينة فدخلت على رسول الله ﷺ فذكرت عنده وافد عاد فقلت أعوذ بالله أن أكون مثل وافد عاد فقال رسول الله ﷺ وما وافد عاد قال فقلت على الخبير سقطت إن عادا لما أقحطت بعثت قيلا فنزل على بكر بن معاوية فسقاه الخمر وغنته الجرادتان ثم خرج يريد جبال مهرة فقال اللهم إني لم آتك لمريض فأداويه ولا لأسير فأفاديه فاسق عبدك ما كنت مسقيه واسق معه بكر بن معاوية يشكر له الخمر التي سقاه فرفع له سحابات فقيل له اختر إحداهن فاختار السوداء منهن فقيل له خذها رمادا رمددا لا تذر من عاد أحدا وذكر أنه لم يرسل عليهم من الريح إلا قدر هذه الحلقة يعني حلقة الخاتم ثم قرأ {إذ أرسلنا عليهم الريح العقيم ما تذر من شيء أتت عليه إلا جعلته كالرميم} الآية
