The Prophet ﷺ said, "My Lord came to me in the most beautiful form and asked, 'Muhammad.'I replied, 'At your service, my Lord.'He asked, 'What are the highest assembly of angels disputing about?'I said, 'My Lord, I do not know.'So He placed His hand between my shoulders, and I felt its coolness between my breasts, and I came to know what lies between the East and the West. Then He said, 'Muhammad.'I replied, 'At your service, my Lord.'He asked, 'What are the highest assembly of angels disputing about?'I said, 'About the ranks and the expiations, about taking steps to attend the congregational prayers, performing ablution thoroughly in difficult circumstances, and waiting for one prayer after another. Whoever preserves these will live in goodness and die in goodness, and will be free of his sins as on the day his mother gave birth to him.'"
Citation. Hasan.Ibn Abu Asim also narrated it in Sunnah, hadith no. 469, from the hadith of Muaz bin Hisham Dastawai, with the same wording.Qatada narrated using "an" (an ambiguous formula suggesting a possible break in the chain). The hadith has corroborating witnesses, including the hadith that follows. On this topic there are also narrations from Muaz bin Jabal [to follow, no. 3235] and Abdul-Rahman bin Aish [to follow, no. 3235, and Darimi 2/126, hadith no. 2155, and Abu Naeem in Marifat Sahabah 4/1862, hadith no. 4687]. Walid bin Muslim explicitly affirmed hearing it in an unbroken chain.
