Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting with a group of his companions, a shooting star streaked across the sky and gave off a bright light.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "What did you used to say about something like this in the days of ignorance when you saw it?"They replied, "We used to say that a great person has died or a great person has been born."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Truly, it is not shot for anyone's death or birth. Rather, when our Lord decrees a matter, the bearers of the Throne glorify Him, then the inhabitants of the heaven next to them glorify Him, then those next to them, until the glorification reaches this lowest heaven. Then the inhabitants of the sixth heaven ask the inhabitants of the seventh, 'What did your Lord say?' and they inform them. Then the inhabitants of each heaven seek the news from those above them until the news reaches the inhabitants of the lowest heaven. The devils snatch at what they can overhear and are pelted, and they cast what they hear down to their allies. Whatever they bring as it truly is, is true, but they distort it and add to it."

عن ابن عباس قال

بينما رسول الله ﷺ جالس في نفر من أصحابه إذ رمي بنجم فاستنار فقال رسول الله ﷺ ما كنتم تقولون لمثل هذا في الجاهلية إذا رأيتموه قالوا كنا نقول يموت عظيم أو يولد عظيم فقال رسول الله ﷺ فإنه لا يرمى به لموت أحد ولا لحياته ولكن ربنا عز وجل إذا قضى أمرا سبح له حملة العرش ثم سبح أهل السماء الذين يلونهم ثم الذين يلونهم حتى يبلغ التسبيح إلى هذه السماء ثم سأل أهل السماء السادسة أهل السماء السابعة ماذا قال ربكم قال فيخبرونهم ثم يستخبر أهل كل سماء حتى يبلغ الخبر أهل السماء الدنيا وتختطف الشياطين السمع فيرمون فيقذفونه إلى أوليائهم فما جاءوا به على وجهه فهو حق ولكنهم يحرفونه ويزيدون
