Anas bin Nadr reported,

He was named after him but did not witness Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and that weighed heavily on him. He said, "The first battle the Messenger of Allah ﷺ witnessed, I was absent from. By Allah, if Allah ever shows me a battle with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ hereafter, Allah will surely see what I do."He was afraid to say more than that. So he was present with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Uhud the following year. Saad bin Muaz met him and asked, "Abu Amr, where are you going?"He replied, "How wonderful! I can smell the fragrance of Paradise coming from beyond Uhud."He fought until he was killed. More than eighty wounds were found on his body, between sword strikes, spear thrusts, and arrow shots.My aunt Rabi bint Nadr said, "I could only recognize my brother by his fingertips."Then this verse was revealed, "Some men who were true to the covenant they made with Allah. Among them is he who has fulfilled his vow, and among them is he who awaits, and they have not changed in the least" [Ahzab 33:23].

سميت به لم يشهد بدرا مع رسول الله ﷺ فكبر علي فقال أول مشهد شهده رسول الله ﷺ غبت عنه أما والله لئن أراني الله مشهدا مع رسول الله ﷺ فيما بعد ليرين الله ما أصنع قال فهاب أن يقول غيرها فشهد مع رسول الله ﷺ يوم أحد من العام القابل فاستقبله سعد بن معاذ فقال يا أبا عمرو أين قال واها لريح الجنة أجدها دون أحد فقاتل حتى قتل فوجد في جسده بضع وثمانون من بين ضربة وطعنة ورمية فقالت عمتي الربيع بنت النضر فما عرفت أخي إلا ببنانه ونزلت هذه الآية {رجال صدقوا ما عاهدوا الله عليه فمنهم من قضى نحبه ومنهم من ينتظر وما بدلوا تبديلا}
