When the Prophet ﷺ was driven out of Mecca, Abu Bakr said, "They have driven out their Prophet, they shall surely perish."Then Allah Almighty revealed, "Permission is given to those who are being fought because they have been wronged, and indeed Allah is fully capable of granting them victory" [Hajj 22:39].Abu Bakr said, "I knew then that there would be fighting."He said, this is a hasan hadith. Abdul-Rahman bin Mahdi and others narrated it from Sufyan, from Amash, from Muslim al-Batin, from Saeed bin Jubayr, from the Prophet ﷺ, with Ibn Abbas mentioned in the chain. It was also narrated by another route from Sufyan, from Amash, from Muslim al-Batin, from Saeed bin Jubayr in mursal form, without mentioning Ibn Abbas.

لما أخرج النبي ﷺ من مكة قال أبو بكر أخرجوا نبيهم ليهلكن فأنزل الله تعالى {أذن للذين يقاتلون بأنهم ظلموا وإن الله على نصرهم لقدير} الآية فقال أبو بكر لقد علمت أنه سيكون قتال قال هذا حديث حسن وقد رواه عبد الرحمن بن مهدي وغيره عن سفيان عن الأعمش عن مسلم البطين عن سعيد بن جبير عن النبي ﷺ فيه عن ابن عباس وقد رواه بطر يحدة عن سفيان عن الأعمش عن مسلم البطين عن سعيد بن جبير مرسلا وليس فيه عن ابن عباس
[Sahih] Nasai narrated it (2/6, no. 3087, Jihad, chapter on the obligation of jihad) from the hadith of Ishaq bin Yusuf, with this same chain, and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (no. 1687), as did Hakim (2/66, 246, 290). Shubah also narrated it from Amash with the same chain (Hakim 3/7 (8)), and he graded it sahih according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs.
