I heard Khabab bin Arat say, "I came to As bin Waail al-Sahmi to demand a debt he owed me."He said, "I will not pay you until you disbelieve in Muhammad."I replied, "No, not until you die and then are resurrected."He said, "And will I really die and then be resurrected?"I answered, "Yes."He said, "Then I will have wealth and children there, and I will pay you back."So this verse was revealed, "Have you seen the one who disbelieved in Our verses and said, 'I will surely be given wealth and children'" [Maryam 19:77], to the end of the verse.Hannad narrated to us, Abu Muawiya narrated to us from Amash, something similar. He said, this is a hasan sahih hadith.
Agreed upon. Muslim also related it in Sifat Munafiqin, chapter on the Jews asking the Prophet ﷺ about the spirit, etc., no. 36/2795, from Muhammad bin Abu Umar, and Bukhari, no. 4732, from the hadith of Sufyan Ibn Uyayna, with the same wording.
