The Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished a prayer in which he had recited aloud and asked, "Did any of you recite along with me just now?"A man answered, "Yes, Messenger of Allah."He said, "I was wondering why I felt the Quran being contested with me."So the people stopped reciting along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the prayers in which he recited aloud, once they heard this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

أن رسول الله ﷺ انصرف من صلاة جهر فيها بالقراءة فقال هل قرأ معي أحد منكم آنفا فقال رجل نعم يا رسول الله قال إني أقول مالي أنازع القرآن قال فانتهى الناس عن القراءة مع رسول الله ﷺ فيما جهر فيه رسول الله ﷺ من الصلوات بالقراءة حين سمعوا ذلك من رسول الله ﷺ
[Sahih]. Abu Dawud narrated it, no. 826, and Nasai, 2/141, no. 920, from the hadith of Malik through the same route, and it is in Muwatta 1/86 (Yahya's recension). Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, no. 454.Ibn Ukaymah's status is similar to that of Nafi bin Mahmud Maqdisi, both being of unknown status, though the more correct view is that both are reliable.On this subject there is also a report from Ibn Masud [Ahmad 1/451], from Imran bin Husayn [Muslim, no. 398], and from Jabir bin Abdullah, Ibn Majah, no. 850, and this is the hadith etc. [to come at 2953].
