When the verse "And those who hoard gold and silver" [Tawbah 9:34] was revealed, we were with the Prophet ﷺ on one of his journeys. Some of his companions said, "What has been revealed concerning gold and silver has been revealed. If only we knew which kind of wealth is best, we would acquire it."He said, "The best of it is a tongue that remembers Allah, a heart that is grateful, and a believing wife who helps him in his faith."He said, this is a hasan hadith. I asked Muhammad bin Ismail, "Did Salim bin Abu Jaad hear from Thawban?"He said, "No."I asked him, "From whom among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ did he hear?"He replied, "He heard from Jabir bin Abdullah and Anas bin Malik," and he mentioned several other companions of the Prophet ﷺ.
[Hasan]. Ibn Majah also narrated it in the Book of Marriage, Chapter on the Best of Women, hadith no. 1856, from Salim bin Abu Jaad through this route, and it has corroborating narrations in Ahmad, 5/366, and Atraf Musnad, 8/295, and elsewhere.
