Abu Ubayda reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When the Children of Israel fell into shortcomings, a man among them would see his brother committing a sin and would forbid him from it. But when the next day came, what he had seen the day before did not prevent him from being his companion in eating, drinking, and mixing with him. So Allah struck their hearts together and revealed concerning them in the Quran, 'Cursed were those who disbelieved among the Children of Israel by the tongue of Dawud and Isa, son of Maryam. That was because they disobeyed and were transgressing'" [Maidah 5:78].He recited until he reached, "And if they had believed in Allah and the Prophet and what was revealed to him, they would not have taken them as allies, but many of them are defiantly disobedient" [Maidah 5:81].He continued, "The Prophet of Allah ﷺ had been reclining, then he sat up and said, 'No, not until you seize the hand of the wrongdoer and bend him firmly toward the truth.'"Bundar narrated to us, Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi narrated to us and dictated it to me, Muhammad bin Muslim bin Abu al-Waddah narrated to us, from Ali bin Badhimah, from Abu Ubayda, from Abdullah, from the Prophet ﷺ, the like of it.

حدثنا بندار حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن مهدي حدثنا سفيان عن علي بن بذيمة

عن أبي عبيدة قال

قال رسول الله ﷺ إن بني إسرائيل لما وقع فيهم النقص كان الرجل فيهم يرى أخاه على الذنب فينهاه عنه فإذا كان الغد لم يمنعه ما رأى منه أن يكون أكيله وشريبه وخليطه فضرب الله قلوب بعضهم ببعض ونزل فيهم القرآن فقال {لعن الذين كفروا من بني إسرائيل على لسان داود وعيسى ابن مريم ذلك بما عصوا وكانوا يعتدون} فقرأ حتى بلغ {ولو كانوا يؤمنون بالله والنبي وما أنزل إليه ما اتخذوهم أولياء ولكن كثيرا منهم فاسقون} قال وكان نبي الله ﷺ متكئا فجلس فقال لا حتى تأخذوا على يد الظالم فتأطروه على الحق أطرا حدثنا بندار حدثنا أبو داود الطيالسي وأملاه علي حدثنا محمد بن مسلم بن أبي الوضاح عن علي بن بذيمة عن أبي عبيدة عن عبد الله عن النبي ﷺ مثله
