When the verse "Whoever does evil will be recompensed for it" [Nisa 4:123] was revealed, it weighed heavily upon the Muslims, and they complained about it to the Prophet ﷺ.He said, "Strive to come close to the right path and seek to be upright. In every misfortune that befalls a believer there is expiation, even a thorn that pricks him or a stumble he suffers."Ibn Muhaysin is Umar bin Abdul-Rahman bin Muhaysin.

لما نزل {من يعمل سوءا يجز به} شق ذلك على المسلمين فشكوا ذلك إلى النبي ﷺ فقال قاربوا وسددوا وفي كل ما يصيب المؤمن كفارة حتى الشوكة يشاكها أو النكبة ينكبها ابن محيصن هو عمر بن عبد الرحمن بن محيصن
Muslim also narrated it in "Kitab al-Birr wa'l-Sila," chapter on the reward of the believer for the illness, sorrow, or similar affliction that befalls him, even down to the thorn that pricks him, hadith no. 2574, from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna, with the same wording.
