The Prophet ﷺ was dictating to him the verse, "Not equal are those believers who sit at home and the mujahideen who strive in the cause of Allah" [Nisa 4:95].He said, Ibn Umm Maktum came to him while he was dictating it to me and said, "Messenger of Allah, by Allah, if I were able to strive in jihad, I would do so." He was a blind man.Then Allah sent revelation down upon His Messenger ﷺ, and his thigh was on my thigh, and it grew so heavy that I feared it would crush my thigh. Then the state left him, and Allah revealed to him, "except those who have a disability" [Nisa 4:95].
حدثنا عبد بن حميد حدثنا يعقوب بن إبراهيم بن سعد عن أبيه عن صالح بن كيسان عن ابن شهاب حدثني سهل بن سعد قال رأيت مروان بن الحكم جالسا في المسجد فأقبلت حتى جلست إلى جنبه فأخبرنا أن
أن النبي ﷺ أملى عليه {لا يستوي القاعدون من المؤمنين} {والمجاهدون في سبيل الله} قال فجاءه ابن أم مكتوم وهو يمليها علي فقال يا رسول الله والله لو أستطيع الجهاد لجاهدت وكان رجلا أعمى فأنزل الله على رسوله ﷺ وفخذه على فخذي فثقلت حتى همت ترض فخذي ثم سري عنه فأنزل الله عليه {غير أولي الضرر}
Bukhari also recorded it in the Tafsir, chapter, "Those believers who sit at home are not equal," hadith 4592, from the hadith of Ibrahim bin Saad, through this same chain, and it is found in Muslim, hadith 1898, from the hadith of Saad bin Ibrahim, from his father, from a man, from Zayd bin Thabit, through this same chain.As for the hadith of Maamar, Ahmad recorded it in 5/184, from Abdul-Razzaq, from him.
