The Prophet ﷺ said, "It will be said to the companion of the Quran, 'Recite and ascend, and recite with measured tones as you used to recite in the worldly life, for your station will be at the last verse you recite.'"
حدثنا محمود بن غيلان حدثنا أبو داود الحفري وأبو نعيم عن سفيان عن عاصم بن أبي النجود عن زر
عن النبي ﷺ قال يقال لصاحب القرآن اقرأ وارتق ورتل كما كنت ترتل في الدنيا فإن منزلتك عند آخر آية تقرأ بها
[Hasan] Abu Dawud narrated it in Witr, chapter on how recitation should preferably be measured out slowly, hadith no. 1464, from Sufyan Thawri with this wording. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, no. 1790, and so did Dhahabi in Talkhis Mustadrak, 1/553. It has a corroborating witness in Ibn Majah, hadith no. 3780.
