The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "My example and the example of my nation is like that of a man who kindled a fire, and flies and moths began to fall into it. I am holding you back by your waistbands, while you are plunging into it."
حدثنا قتيبة حدثنا المغيرة بن عبد الرحمن عن أبي الزناد عن الأعرج
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال إنما مثلي ومثل أمتي كمثل رجل استوقد نارا فجعلت الذباب والفراش يقعن فيها وأنا آخذ بحجزكم وأنتم تقحمون فيها
Agreed upon [by Bukhari and Muslim]. Muslim narrated it in the Book of Virtues, chapter on his compassion toward his nation and his strenuous effort in warning them against what would harm them, hadith no. 2284, from Qutaybah, and Bukhari, hadith no. 3426, from the hadith of Abu Zinad, with the same wording.
