The Negus gave the Prophet ﷺ a pair of plain black leather socks as a gift. He wore them, then performed ablution and wiped over them.He said, "This is a hasan hadith. We know it only through the narration of Dilham, and Muhammad bin Rabia has also reported it from Dilham."
[Its chain is daif]Sourcing, Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Purification, Chapter on Wiping over the Leather Socks, hadith 155, and Ibn Majah, hadith 549, from the hadith of Waki with this chain. Dalham is daif, but part of the hadith has many corroborating narrations, and wiping over the leather socks is mutawatir.
