He had met the Prophet ﷺ. Ayesha reported that the Prophet ﷺ forbade both men and women from entering bathhouses, then later permitted men to do so provided they wore waist-wraps.

وكان قد أدرك النبي ﷺ عن عائشة أن النبي ﷺ نهى الرجال والنساء عن الحمامات ثم رخص للرجال في الميازر

Part of the hadith has a corroborating witness in Abu Dawud, no. 4011, and elsewhere.* Abu Udhrah, his hadith is hasan according to the more correct view.
