The Prophet ﷺ said to me, "The best perfume for a man is one whose scent is apparent and whose color is hidden, and the best perfume for women is one whose color is apparent and whose scent is hidden." He also forbade the use of saddle covers made of crimson silk. This hadith is hasan gharib through this chain.
[Its chain of transmission is daif] Abu Dawud also narrated it, in the chapter on clothing, section on those who disliked it, hadith 4048, from the hadith of Saeed bin Abu Aruba with this same wording, but its chain is daif due to several defects. Despite this, Hakim graded it sahih in 4/191, and Dhahabi concurred with him. This hadith has daif corroborating narrations, including the previous hadith.
