The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A man has the greatest right to his seat, and if he leaves it for some need and then returns, he still has the greatest right to it."
حدثنا قتيبة حدثنا خالد بن عبد الله الواسطي عن عمرو بن يحيى عن محمد بن يحيى بن حبان عن عمه واسع بن حبان
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال الرجل أحق بمجلسه وإن خرج لحاجته ثم عاد فهو أحق بمجلسه
Its chain is sahih. Ahmad narrated it (3/422) from the hadith of Khalid bin Abdullah, with the same wording.On this subject there are also reports from Abu Bakra [Abu Dawud, no. 4827], Abu Saeed [Ahmad, 3/32], and Abu Hurairah [Muslim, 2179].
