Two men sneezed in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ. He invoked a blessing for one of them but not for the other. The one for whom he did not invoke a blessing said, "Messenger of Allah, you blessed this man but did not bless me."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "He praised Allah, but you did not praise Allah."
حدثنا ابن أبي عمر حدثنا سفيان عن سليمان التيمي
أن رجلين عطسا عند النبي ﷺ فشمت أحدهما ولم يشمت الآخر فقال الذي لم يشمته يا رسول الله شمت هذا ولم تشمتني فقال رسول الله ﷺ إنه حمد الله وإنك لم تحمد الله
Agreed upon [by Bukhari and Muslim]. Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Manners, chapter on saying "Praise be to Allah" upon sneezing, hadith no. 6221, from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna, and Muslim, hadith no. 2991, from the hadith of Sulayman Taymi, with the same wording. It has also been narrated from Abu Hurairah by Ahmad, 22/328, and by Bukhari in Adab al-Mufrad, hadith no. 932.
