[Sahih]. Ahmad narrated it (3/308) from Sufyan bin Uyayna with this wording, and Shuba and a group of others followed him in narrating it. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (Al-Ihsan, 2702). Bukhari narrated it, no. 5243, and Muslim, Al-Imarah, no. 715, following no. 1928, from the hadith of Jabir bin Abdullah Ansari with this wording.This subject is also reported from Anas [Bukhari, no. 1800, and Muslim, no. 1928], Ibn Umar [Ahmad, 2/104], Ibn Abbas [Darimi, no. 450], and Ibn Khuzayma [Fath al-Bari, 9/341].
