The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When you perform ablution, blow water out of your nose, and when you clean yourself with stones, use an odd number."
حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد حدثنا حماد بن زيد وجرير عن منصور عن هلال بن يساف
قال رسول الله ﷺ إذا توضأت فانتثر وإذا استجمرت فأوتر
Its isnad is sahih. Ibn Majah also narrated it, in "Purification, chapter on being thorough in rinsing the nose and blowing it out," no. 406, from the hadith of Hammad bin Zayd, with the same wording, and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (al-Ihsan): 1433, (Mawarid): 149.On this topic there are also narrations from Uthman [Bukhari, no. 159 and elsewhere, and Muslim, no. 226], Laqit bin Sabrah [Abu Dawud, no. 144, with its basic wording found in the author's own work (coming at no. 788)], Ibn Abbas [Abu Dawud, no. 141, and Ibn Majah, no. 408], Miqdam bin Mad Yakrib [Abu Dawud, no. 121], Waail bin Hajar [Tabarani in al-Kabir, 22/50, no. 118], and Abu Hurairah [Bukhari, no. 161, and Muslim, no. 237].
