Anas bin Malik reported,

I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he passed by some children and greeted them with salaam.

حدثنا أبو الخطاب زياد بن يحيى البصري حدثنا أبو عتاب سهل بن حماد حدثنا شعبة عن سيار قال كنت أمشي مع ثابت البناني فمر على صبيان فسلم عليهم فقال ثابت كنت مع أنس فمر على صبيان فسلم عليهم

وقال أنس

كنت مع رسول الله ﷺ فمر على صبيان فسلم عليهم

Commentary

Darussalam

Agreed upon [by Bukhari and Muslim]. Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Seeking Permission, Chapter on Greeting Children, h: 6247, and Muslim, h: 2168, from the hadith of Shubah through this route. The hadith of Qutayba was narrated by Nasai in Amal al-Yawm wal-Layla, h: 329, and its chain of transmission is hasan.
