The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Leave me as I have left you. When I tell you something, take it from me. Those who came before you were destroyed only because of their excessive questioning and their disagreement with their prophets."
حدثنا هناد حدثنا أبو معاوية عن الأعمش عن أبي صالح
قال رسول الله ﷺ اتركوني ما تركتكم فإذا حدثتكم فخذوا عني فإنما هلك من كان قبلكم بكثرة سؤالهم واختلافهم على أنبيائهم
Muslim also narrated it in the Book of Virtues, in the chapter on showing reverence to him and refraining from asking him excessive questions about matters not necessary, etc., hadith no. 1337/131, after hadith no. 2357, from the hadith of Abu Muawiya al-Darir, transmitted through him. Bukhari narrated it as well, hadith no. 7288, through another route from Abu Hurairah.
