Burayda reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The covenant between us and them is the prayer. Whoever abandons it has disbelieved."

عن عبد الله بن بريدة عن أبيه قال

قال رسول الله ﷺ العهد الذي بيننا وبينهم الصلاة فمن تركها فقد كفر

[Its chain of transmission is sahih] Nasai recorded it: 1/231, 232, no. 464 (Prayer, chapter on the ruling concerning one who abandons prayer) from Husayn bin Hurayth through this route. Ibn Majah also narrated it, no. 1079, from the hadith of Ali bin Hasan Ibn Shaqiq through this route. Ibn Hibban declared it sahih, no. 255, as did Hakim, 6/1, 7, and Dhahabi agreed with him.There is also a report on this subject from Anas [Ibn Majah, no. 1080] and from Ibn Abbas [Abu Yaala, 4/236, no. 2349].
