He prayed with the Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet would say in his bowing, "Glory be to my Lord, the Magnificent," and in his prostration, "Glory be to my Lord, the Most High." He did not pass over a verse of mercy without pausing to ask for it, nor a verse of punishment without pausing to seek refuge from it.

أنه صلى مع النبي ﷺ فكان يقول في ركوعه سبحان ربي العظيم وفي سجوده سبحان ربي الأعلى وما أتى على آية رحمة إلا وقف وسأل وما أتى على آية عذاب إلا وقف وتعوذ
[Sahih]. Muslim also narrated it in the Book of the Prayer of Travelers, Chapter on the Recommendation of Lengthening the Recitation in the Night Prayer, h: 772, from the hadith of Amash through the same route. It is also found in Musnad Tayalisi, h: 415.
