Yahya bin Yamar reported,

The first person to speak about qadar was Mabad al-Juhani.I and Humayd bin Abdul-Rahman al-Himyari set out and arrived in Medina. We said, "If only we could meet one of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ and ask him about what these people have introduced." So we met him, meaning Abdullah bin Umar, as he was leaving the mosque. My companion and I flanked him on either side. I assumed my companion would leave the speaking to me, so I said, "Abu Abdul-Rahman, there are people who recite the Quran and pursue knowledge, yet they claim there is no qadar and that the matter is unfolded anew."He replied, "When you meet those people, inform them that I am free of them and they are free of me. By the One whom Abdullah swears by, if one of them spent the equivalent of Mount Uhud in gold, it would not be accepted from him until he believes in qadar, both its good and its evil."Then he began to narrate, saying, Umar bin Khattab said, "We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a man came forward whose clothes were intensely white and whose hair was intensely black. No trace of travel could be seen on him, and none of us recognized him. He came up to the Prophet ﷺ and pressed his knee against the Prophet's knee.Then he said, 'Muhammad, what is iman?'The Prophet ﷺ answered, 'That you believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and qadar, both its good and its evil.'The man asked, 'What is Islam?'He answered, 'To testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, to establish the prayer, give the zakat, perform the pilgrimage to the House, and fast during Ramadan.'The man asked, 'What is ihsan?'He answered, 'That you worship Allah as if you see Him, for though you do not see Him, He sees you.'After each answer, the man would say, 'You have spoken truly.' We were amazed at him, asking the question and then confirming the answer.The man asked, 'When is the Hour?'He answered, 'The one being asked knows no more about it than the one asking.'The man asked, 'Then what are its signs?'He answered, 'That the slave woman will give birth to her mistress, and that you will see the barefoot, the naked, the destitute herders of sheep competing in constructing tall buildings.'"Umar continued, "Three days later, the Prophet ﷺ met me and said, 'Umar, do you know who the questioner was? That was Jibreel. He came to teach you the essentials of your religion.'"Ahmad bin Muhammad narrated to us, Ibn Mubarak informed us, Kahmas bin al-Hasan informed us, with this chain, something similar.Muhammad bin al-Muthanna narrated to us, Muaz bin Muaz narrated to us, from Kahmas, with this chain, something similar in meaning.

عن يحيى بن يعمر قال

أول من تكلم في القدر معبد الجهني قال فخرجت أنا وحميد بن عبد الرحمن الحميري حتى أتينا المدينة فقلنا لو لقينا رجلا من أصحاب النبي ﷺ فسألناه عما أحدث هؤلاء القوم قال فلقيناه يعني عبد الله بن عمر وهو خارج من المسجد قال فاكتنفته أنا وصاحبي قال فظننت أن صاحبي سيكل الكلام إلي فقلت يا أبا عبد الرحمن إن قوما يقرءون القرآن ويتقفرون العلم ويزعمون أن لا قدر وأن الأمر أنف قال فإذا لقيت أولئك فأخبرهم أني منهم بريء وأنهم مني برءاء والذي يحلف به عبد الله لو أن أحدهم أنفق مثل أحد ذهبا ما قبل ذلك منه حتى يؤمن بالقدر خيره وشره قال ثم أنشأ يحدث فقال قال عمر بن الخطاب كنا عند رسول الله ﷺ فجاء رجل شديد بياض الثياب شديد سواد الشعر لا يرى عليه أثر السفر ولا يعرفه منا أحد حتى أتى النبي ﷺ فألزق ركبته بركبته ثم قال يا محمد ما الإيمان قال أن تؤمن بالله وملائكته وكتبه ورسله واليوم الآخر والقدر خيره وشره قال فما الإسلام قال شهادة أن لا إله إلا الله وأن محمدا عبده ورسوله وإقام الصلاة وإيتاء الزكاة وحج البيت وصوم رمضان قال فما الإحسان قال أن تعبد الله كأنك تراه فإنك إن لم تكن تراه فإنه يراك قال في كل ذلك يقول له صدقت قال فتعجبنا منه يسأله ويصدقه قال فمتى الساعة قال ما المسئول عنها بأعلم من السائل قال فما أمارتها قال أن تلد الأمة ربتها وأن ترى الحفاة العراة العالة أصحاب الشاء يتطاولون في البنيان قال عمر فلقيني النبي ﷺ بعد ذلك بثلاث فقال يا عمر هل تدري من السائل ذاك جبريل أتاكم يعلمكم معالم دينكم حدثنا أحمد بن محمد أخبرنا ابن المبارك أخبرنا كهمس بن الحسن بهذا الإسناد نحوه حدثنا محمد بن المثنى حدثنا معاذ بن معاذ عن كهمس بهذا الإسناد نحوه بمعناه
