Abu Hurairah reported,
The Prophet ﷺ said, "The Fire was kindled for a thousand years until it glowed red, then kindled for another thousand years until it turned white, then kindled for another thousand years until it turned black. So it is black and dark."Suwayd narrated to us, saying that Abdullah bin Mubarak reported from Sharik, from Asim, from Abu Salih, or from another man, from Abu Hurairah, something similar to this, but he did not attribute it to the Prophet.

عن النبي ﷺ قال أوقد على النار ألف سنة حتى احمرت ثم أوقد عليها ألف سنة حتى ابيضت ثم أوقد عليها ألف سنة حتى اسودت فهي سوداء مظلمة حدثنا سويد أخبرنا عبد الله بن المبارك عن شريك عن عاصم عن أبي صالح أو رجل آخر عن أبي هريرة نحوه ولم يرفعه

[Its chain is daif]. Ibn Majah also narrated it in Zuhd, chapter on the description of the Fire, hadith no. 4320, from Abbas bin Muhammad Duri, with the same wording. Sharik conceals his source and narrated it using the ambiguous formula "an," without a clear statement of direct hearing.Abu Hurairah 
said, "Do you suppose it is red like this fire of yours? It is blacker than tar." Tar here means pitch.Malik narrated it in 2/994 with a sahih chain going back to him, and its ruling is that it counts as a raised report, as Baji said. The hadith has corroborating witnesses.
