He traced it back to the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "There are three whom Allah loves. A man who rises in the night to recite the Book of Allah. A man who gives charity with his right hand, concealing it"—I think he said—"from his left hand. And a man who was part of a military expedition whose companions fled, but he turned and faced the enemy."

[Hasan] Shajari also narrated it in al-Amali, 1/216, and Tabarani in al-Kabir, 10/256, hadith no. 10486, from the hadith of Abu Kurayb by the same route, but its chain is daif, and the hadith that follows serves as a corroborating witness for it.
