Agreed upon [by Bukhari and Muslim]. Bukhari related it, no. 756, and Muslim, no. 394, from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna, with the same wording.Benefit of this hadith, it is general and applies comprehensively to the imam, the one following him, and the one praying alone. Ubada , the narrator, held the view that recitation should be made behind the imam, and he was more knowledgeable about the interpretation of this hadith than Sufyan bin Uyayna, Ahmad, and others.On this subject there are also narrations from Abu Hurairah [coming at 2953], Ayesha [Ibn Majah, no. 840], Anas [Ibn Hibban, nos. 458, 459], Abu Qatada [Ahmad 5/308], and Abdullah bin Amr [Ahmad 2/204, 215], and a group of the companions, so the hadith is mutawatir (transmitted through so many chains that its authenticity is beyond doubt).
