He was an ally of Banu Amir bin Luayy and had witnessed Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Abu Ubayda bin al-Jarrah, who returned with wealth from Bahrain. The Ansar heard of Abu Ubayda's arrival, so they came to perform the dawn prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished the prayer and turned to leave, they presented themselves before him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled when he saw them and said, "I suppose you have heard that Abu Ubayda has arrived with something."They replied, "Yes, Messenger of Allah."He said, "Then receive good news and hope for what will please you. By Allah, it is not poverty that I fear for you. Rather, I fear that the world will be spread out before you as it was spread out before those who came before you, so you will compete for it as they competed for it, and it will destroy you as it destroyed them."
