The Messenger of Allah ﷺ drew a square for us, then drew a line in the middle of it, and another line extending outside the square, with several smaller lines on either side of the one in the middle. He said, "This is the son of Adam, and this surrounding square is his appointed term encompassing him. This line in the middle is the human being, and these smaller lines are the misfortunes that beset him. If he escapes one, another strikes him. The line extending outward is his hope."This is a sound hadith.
حدثنا محمد بن بشار حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد حدثنا سفيان عن أبيه عن أبي يعلى عن الربيع بن خثيم
خط لنا رسول الله ﷺ خطا مربعا وخط في وسط الخط خطا وخط خارجا من الخط خطا وحول الذي في الوسط خطوطا فقال هذا ابن آدم وهذا أجله محيط به وهذا الذي في الوسط الإنسان وهذه الخطوط عروضه إن نجا من هذا ينهشه هذا والخط الخارج الأمل هذا حديث صحيح
Bukhari also narrated it in the Book of Riqaq, Chapter: On aspiration and its prolongation, etc., hadith no. 6417, from the hadith of Qattan through this same chain.
