A man stood up and began praising one of the rulers. Miqdad started throwing dust in his face and said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to throw dust in the faces of those who shower others with praise."
حدثنا محمد بن بشار حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن مهدي حدثنا سفيان عن حبيب بن أبي ثابت عن مجاهد
قام رجل فأثنى على أمير من الأمراء فجعل المقداد يحثو في وجهه التراب وقال أمرنا رسول الله ﷺ أن نحثو في وجوه المداحين التراب
Chapter Muslim also reported it in the Book of Zuhd, chapter on the prohibition of praise when it involves excess, etc., hadith no. 3002, from the hadith of Ibn Mahdi, with the same wording.There is also a narration on this subject from Abu Hurairah [to come at 2394].
