The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever shows off, Allah will expose him, and whoever seeks reputation, Allah will expose his true intent."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ also said, "Whoever does not show mercy to people, Allah will not show mercy to him."

[Sahih] Ahmad reported it, 3/40, from the hadith of Muawiya bin Hisham, and Ibn Majah, no. 4206, from the hadith of Atiya Awfi with the same wording. Busiri declared it daif because of Atiya. The hadith has corroborating narrations in Bukhari, no. 6499, and Muslim, no. 2987, and others.There is also a narration on this subject from Jundab [Bukhari, no. 6499, and Muslim, no. 2987] and Abdullah bin Amr [Ahmad, 2/212, 223].
