I have seen myself collapsing between the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the chamber of Ayesha, falling unconscious from hunger. Someone would come along and place his foot on my neck, thinking I was suffering from madness, but it was no madness, only hunger.
حدثنا قتيبة حدثنا حماد بن زيد عن أيوب عن محمد بن سيرين قال كنا عند أبي هريرة وعليه ثوبان ممشقان من كتان فتمخط في أحدهما ثم قال بخ بخ يتمخط
في الكتان لقد رأيتني وإني لأخر فيما بين منبر رسول الله ﷺ وحجرة عائشة من الجوع مغشيا علي فيجيء الجائي فيضع رجله على عنقي يرى أن بي الجنون وما بي جنون وما هو إلا الجوع
Bukhari also narrated it in the Book of Adherence to the Quran and Sunnah, in the chapter on what the Prophet ﷺ mentioned and his urging agreement among the people of knowledge, etc., hadith no. 7324, from the hadith of Hammad bin Zayd, with the same wording.
