The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "This is the son of Adam, and this is his appointed time of death." He placed his hand at the back of his neck, then stretched it out and said, "And out there is his hope, and out there is his hope, and out there is his hope."
[Its chain of transmission is sahih] Ibn Majah also narrated it in the Book of Zuhd, chapter on Hope and Lifespan, hadith no. 4232, from the hadith of Hammad bin Salama, with the same chain. It also appears in Kitab al-Zuhd by Ibn Mubarak, hadith no. 252, and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, hadith no. 2552.
