The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When the spoils of war are treated as personal property, trusts are seen as plunder, paying zakat is regarded as a burden, knowledge is pursued for purposes other than religion, a man obeys his wife and disobeys his mother, draws his friend close while pushing his father away, voices are raised in the mosques, the most corrupt of a tribe becomes its leader, the most despicable of a people becomes their chief, a man is honored out of fear of his evil, singing girls and musical instruments appear, wines are drunk, and the later generations of this nation curse the earlier ones, then let them watch out at that time for a red wind, earthquakes, the earth swallowing people up, transformations of forms, stones falling from the sky, and signs following one another like beads from a worn-out string whose thread has snapped, falling one after another."
