One day, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in the afternoon prayer while it was still daytime, then he stood and delivered a sermon in which he left nothing that would occur up to the Day of Resurrection without informing us about it. Whoever remembered it remembered it, and whoever forgot it forgot it.Among what he said was, "The world is sweet and green, and Allah is placing you as successors in it to see how you will act. So beware of the world and beware of women."And among what he said was, "Let no man's awe of people prevent him from speaking the truth when he knows it."Abu Saeed wept and said, "By Allah, we have seen things and feared to speak."And among what he said was, "Indeed, a banner will be raised for every treacherous person on the Day of Resurrection in proportion to his treachery, and no treachery is greater than that of a ruler over a community. His banner will be planted at his backside."Among what we memorized that day was, "Indeed, the children of Adam were created in different categories. Among them is one who is born a believer, lives a believer, and dies a believer. Among them is one who is born an unbeliever, lives an unbeliever, and dies an unbeliever. Among them is one who is born a believer, lives a believer, and dies an unbeliever. And among them is one who is born an unbeliever, lives an unbeliever, and dies a believer.Indeed, among them is one slow to anger and quick to return to calm, and among them is one quick to anger and quick to return to calm, so the one balances the other. Indeed, among them is one quick to anger and slow to return to calm. The best of them is the one slow to anger and quick to return to calm, and the worst of them is the one quick to anger and slow to return to calm.Indeed, among them is one who repays debts well and demands repayment kindly, and among them is one who repays debts poorly but demands repayment kindly, and among them is one who repays debts well but demands repayment harshly, so the one balances the other. Indeed, among them is one who repays poorly and demands harshly. The best of them is the one who repays well and demands kindly, and the worst of them is the one who repays poorly and demands harshly.Indeed, anger is an ember in the heart of the son of Adam. Have you not seen the redness of his eyes and the swelling of his neck veins? So whoever feels any of that, let him press himself to the ground."We began glancing at the sun to see how much of it remained, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, what remains of the world compared to what has already passed is no more than what remains of this day of yours compared to what has already passed of it."
[Its chain is daif with this wording]. It was also related by Ibn Majah, Fitan, chapter on the trial of women, no. 2873/4000, from Imran bin Musa, with this same chain. Al-Mustamirr bin Rayyan and others narrated it with Muslim, no. 1738 and elsewhere, in abbreviated form, with the wording, "For every treacherous person there will be a banner on the Day of Resurrection, raised in proportion to his treachery. And no one commits greater treachery than a ruler over the general public." As for his statement, "This world is green and sweet, so beware of women," it has supporting evidence and is sahih on that basis.Ali bin Zayd bin Jadan is daif.On this subject there is also a report from Huzaifa [Bukhari, no. 6604, and Muslim, no. 2891], from Abu Maryam (Malik bin Rabia Saluli) [Nasai, 12/297, no. 622], from Abu Zayd Amr bin Akhtab [Muslim, no. 2892], and from Mughira bin Shuba [Ahmad, 4/254].
