Huzaifa bin Yaman reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ told us two accounts. I have witnessed one of them, and I am awaiting the other.He told us that trustworthiness was sent down deep into the hearts of men, then the Quran was revealed, so they learned from the Quran and they learned from the Sunnah.Then he told us about the removal of trustworthiness. He said, "A man will sleep, and trustworthiness will be taken from his heart, leaving only a faint trace like a small spot. Then he will sleep again, and trustworthiness will be taken from his heart, leaving its trace like a blister, as when you roll an ember onto your foot and it raises a swelling. You see it puffed up, but there is nothing inside."Then he picked up a pebble and rolled it across his foot.He continued, "People will go about their business buying and selling, yet hardly any of them will fulfill a trust, until it will be said, 'Among the tribe of so-and-so there is a trustworthy man.' And it will be said of a man, 'How tough he is, how clever, how sensible,' though there is not even a mustard seed's weight of faith in his heart."He said, "There was a time when I did not care which of you I dealt with. If he was a Muslim, his religion would compel him to deal honestly with me, and if he was a Jew or a Christian, his guardian would make him do so. But today, I would deal with no one among you except so-and-so and so-and-so."

عن حذيفة بن اليمان

حدثنا رسول الله ﷺ حديثين قد رأيت أحدهما وأنا أنتظر الآخر حدثنا أن الأمانة نزلت في جذر قلوب الرجال ثم نزل القرآن فعلموا من القرآن وعلموا من السنة ثم حدثنا عن رفع الأمانة فقال ينام الرجل النومة فتقبض الأمانة من قلبه فيظل أثرها مثل الوكت ثم ينام نومة فتقبض الأمانة من قلبه فيظل أثرها مثل أثر المجل كجمر دحرجته على رجلك فنفطت فتراه منتبرا وليس فيه شيء ثم أخذ حصاة فدحرجها على رجله قال فيصبح الناس يتبايعون لا يكاد أحدهم يؤدي الأمانة حتى يقال إن في بني فلان رجلا أمينا وحتى يقال للرجل ما أجلده وأظرفه وأعقله وما في قلبه مثقال حبة من خردل من إيمان قال ولقد أتى علي زمان وما أبالي أيكم بايعت فيه لئن كان مسلما ليردنه علي دينه ولئن كان يهوديا أو نصرانيا ليردنه علي ساعيه فأما اليوم فما كنت لأبايع منكم إلا فلانا وفلانا
