He looked down from the upper part of the house during the siege and said, "I implore you by Allah, do you not know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The blood of a Muslim man is not lawful to shed except for one of three reasons, adultery after marriage, apostasy after Islam, or killing a soul unlawfully, for which he is killed in retaliation'? By Allah, I never committed adultery, neither in the days of ignorance nor in Islam, nor have I apostatized since I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, nor have I killed the soul that Allah has forbidden. So for what reason do you kill me?"
Its isnad is sahih. Ibn Majah narrated it in the Hudud, chapter "The blood of a Muslim is not lawful except in three cases," hadith 2533, from Ahmad bin Abdah, and Abu Dawud, hadith 4502, and Nasai, hadith 4024, both from the hadith of Hammad bin Zayd with the same wording. Ibn Jarud graded it sahih, hadith 836, as did Hakim, 4/350, saying it meets the standard of the two Shaykhs, and Dhahabi agreed with him.On this subject there is also a report from Ibn Masud [mentioned earlier, 1402], and from Ayesha [Abu Dawud, hadith 4353], and from Ibn Abbas [Ibn Majah, hadith 2539].
