You recite this verse, "After any bequest he may have made, or any debt" [Nisa 4:11], yet the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ruled that the debt is to be settled before the bequest. Full brothers from the same mother inherit from one another to the exclusion of half-brothers through the father alone. A man inherits from his brother who shares both his father and mother, rather than from his brother who shares only the father.Bundar narrated to us, Yazid bin Harun narrated to us, Zakariyya bin Abu Zaida reported to us, from Abu Ishaq, from Harith, from Ali, from the Prophet ﷺ, a similar report.
[Its chain is daif] Ibn Majah narrated it in the Book of Inheritance, chapter on debt before the bequest, hadith 2715, from the hadith of Sufyan Thawri, in an abridged form, and its chain is extremely daif. The meaning of the hadith has a hasan corroborating witness in Ibn Majah, hadith 2433, and elsewhere.
