The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to seek protection from the jinn and from the evil eye of people, until the two surahs of refuge were revealed. Once they were revealed, he relied on them and left aside everything else.
حدثنا هشام بن يونس الكوفي حدثنا القاسم بن مالك المزني عن الجريري عن أبي نضرة
كان رسول الله ﷺ يتعوذ من الجان وعين الإنسان حتى نزلت المعوذتان فلما نزلتا أخذ بهما وترك ما سواهما
[Its chain of transmission is daif] Nasai narrated it, 8/271, no. 5496, "Seeking Refuge," chapter "Seeking Refuge from the Evil Eye of the Jinn," and Ibn Majah, no. 3511, from the hadith of Jareeri with this wording. Jareeri's memory became mixed up in his later years, and I did not find anyone who narrated this hadith from him before that happened.There is also a report on this subject from Anas, [I did not find it].
