The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Hold fast to truthfulness, for truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. A man continues to tell the truth and strives for truthfulness until he is recorded with Allah as truthful. And beware of lying, for lying leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Fire. A servant continues to lie and strives in lying until he is recorded with Allah as a liar."
ReferencesMuslim also narrated it in the Book of Righteousness and Ties of Kinship, in the chapter on the ugliness of lying and the goodness and virtue of truthfulness, no. 2607, from the hadith of Abu Muawiya Darir, with the same wording. On this topic, there are also narrations from Abu Bakr Siddiq [Ibn Majah, no. 3849], Umar [Bayhaqi in Shuab al-Iman, 4/327, no. 5281], Abdullah bin Shikhir [perhaps referring to the hadith of Abu Dawud, no. 4806], and Ibn Umar [coming up, no. 1972].
