He traced it back to the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "The one who strives to support the widow and the poor is like the warrior who fights in the path of Allah, or like the one who fasts by day and stands in prayer by night."Ansari narrated to us, Maan narrated to us, Malik narrated to us, from Thawr bin Zayd Deeli, from Abu Ghayth, from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ﷺ, something similar.This hadith is hasan, gharib, sahih. Abu Ghayth's name is Salim, the freed slave of Abdullah bin Mutee. Thawr bin Zayd is from Madinah, while Thawr bin Yazid is from Sham.
حدثنا الأنصاري حدثنا معن حدثنا مالك
يرفعه إلى النبي ﷺ قال الساعي على الأرملة والمسكين كالمجاهد في سبيل الله أو كالذي يصوم النهار ويقوم الليل حدثنا الأنصاري حدثنا معن حدثنا مالك عن ثور بن زيد الديلي عن أبي الغيث عن أبي هريرة عن النبي ﷺ مثل ذلك وهذا الحديث حديث حسن غريب صحيح وأبو الغيث اسمه سالم مولى عبد الله بن مطيع وثور بن زيد مدني وثور بن يزيد شامي
Agreed upon (muttafaq alayh). Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Manners, chapter on the one who cares for the widow, hadith 6006, and Muslim, hadith 2982, from the hadith of Malik, from Thawr bin Zayd, with this wording. It is also found in Muwatta (narration of Abu Musab Zuhri, 2/86, hadith 1915, 1916) with the chain of Safwan bin Salim and Thawr bin Zayd.
